It is almost certain that young players enjoy playing soccer the most when they are able to score maximum goals. When planning your practice schedule, you can include youth soccer drills that offer numerous opportunities to players to score goals.

Use small sided games, full field scrimmages, and shooting drills to create opportunities for them. In order to encourage players to score goals, try to introduce variations in small sided games and full field scrimmages in performing kids soccer drills.

You can also include games that don’t involve a goalkeeper or restrict the movement of the goalkeeper within restraining lines. The probability of players scoring goals is also increased by adding more goals or enlarging the ones that are already being used.

When young players improve in their shooting technique and the tactical knowledge about the shooting techniques, the chances of goal production are increased manifold. Just like passing skills, shooting techniques should be introduced to players at the beginner stage. These can be then emphasized more strongly at the later stages of a player’s development.

Youth Soccer Drills

When it comes to youth soccer practice, the most useful method to develop player’s shooting skills is including drills in practice. In order to effectively score goals, shooting drills help in developing shooting skills of the players. However, make sure that your player’s develop their shooting skills gradually.

Different forms of youth soccer drills can be designed with a view to perk up the shooting skills of players by including the following strings in them;

1. Stationery ball being shot by a stationery player.

2.  A moving player shooting a still ball.

3. Moving ball being shot by a stationery player.

4. A moving player being shot by a moving player.

Youth soccer coaching should involve teaching the players to kick the ball effectively while shooting. Majority of the players take the shots using the inside of their feet. This has the effect of enhancing the shooting accuracy.

When in situations where more strength is needed, instruct the players to use the instep of their foot to strike the ball. Their toes should point downwards and the ankles must be locked.

How the non-kicking foot is placed determines the elevation of the shoot. Teach the players that they should keep their non-kicking foot a little ahead of the ball. This will keep the shot low. Try to focus your player’s attention on striking the ball. You can do this by eliminating all distractions like moving players and moving balls.

As their shooting technique improves, keep introducing the level of difficulty in the games. As an example, when they show improvement with their shooting, make them work with the balls at increased speed and levels.
