Let’s face it! Without incorporating free drills in your regular soccer coaching drills, it is difficult to envision a productive training session for your young players. It’s your duty as a coach to see that these drills are a part of the training sessions.
Be in charge of your body: This is the key thing to master in soccer. You can put pressure on the challenger by showing immense control over your body in the field by cleverly yet easily taking the ball towards the challenger’s goal. So how do you ensure that each player has this basic skill? During soccer drills, involve all players in a very exciting game. This is really entertaining as all the team members would be finding out something or the other for making their tail as a part of the activity. Each player’s job is to now save their tail but grab the other’s. What is interesting is that the ball is not needed for this activity to take place initially. Your team members may do away with their tails and use the ball once they know the significance of the game. As is evident, these soccer coaching drills polish their skills in protecting the ball while at the same time exercising greater control over the body.
Keeping the ball in the air: As you will see, this drill will help the boys master many skills at the same time. By being the center, form a circle involving all your team players. Pass the ball from one player to another or to and fro between you and the players. The objective is to keep the ball in the air and not allow it to touch the ground at any time. Now here’s the catch, no one should use their hands in this exercise. Use only the knees, feet, or head. To begin with, keep the groups large for this activity but then gradually reduce their size. The benefits of such soccer exercises are many; for example, they learn to focus, coordinate, and also kick the ball effectively.
React and act: One of several soccer training drills that helps the players respond to situations quickly and with forceful energy. Again, make the players stand in a circle but this time with their backs to the center. Choose a player and tell him to stand in the center of the circle. Instruct this player to call each player at random and thrust the ball at him. The other player will react as fast as he can, turn around, and control the approaching ball in the best possible way.
