Italy’s Soccer Future

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Marcelo Lippi’s current Italian squad has been criticised by several soccer pundits as being too old.  The team is very likely to be fairly new by the Brazilian World Cup, when athletes such as 32 year-old Gianluigi Buffon, 36 year-old Fabio Cannavaro, 32 year-old Gennaro Gattuso, and other players like Andrea Pirlo (31), Gianluca Zambrotta (33), Vincenzo Iaquinta (30), Mauro Camoranesi (33), and Antonio Di Natale (32) are sure to be gone from the team.  Who will Lippi or his successor choose to replace the team?

Lorenzo De Silvestri    Defender     (Fiorentina)    Aged 22
The former Lazio full back cuts an imposing figure for a full back at just over six feet tall.  After a 2009 move to Fiorentina, De Silvestri has exemplified the form that set him apart whilst playing for Italy’s U16 and U21 teams. De Silvestri’s power as a fullback may end up earning him a position on the national team in place of Zambrotta.

Davide Santon        Defender    (Inter)        Aged 19
Able to play down either flank, Santon is a hugely talented young defender who made 28 appearances for Inter this season as well as five appearances already for the Azzuri. Santon’s energy is boundless; his energy on the pitch has earned him a comparison to Paolo Maldini by Italian head coach Marcelo Lippi. We can expect to see the immensely talented Santon in the Italy’s next few squads for major finals events.

Mario Balotelli        (Striker)    (Inter)        Aged 19
Mario Batelli, though prone to fights and poor sportsmanship, may be one of the best attackers or wingers wearing the Italy soccer jersey in upcoming games.  Batelli’s run-ins with both fans and management only serve to distract from his excellent record: the player scored twenty goals in 59 games and notched 6 and 16 for the U21 Italian set. We can expect to see Batelli at the 2012 Euro qualifiers because Italy is going to need a brand new look strike force.

Federico Macheda    (Striker)    (Man Utd)    Aged 18
Despite Macheda’s failure to make first team at Old Trafford, soccer pundits agree that Man United’s striker could make a name for himself in the 2010-2011 season, and even gain the attention of Azzuri management. Macheda’s strength as a striker coupled with his intelligence gives him a boost in scoring goals. Particularly good with his back to goal, he has already been capped at U21 level for Italy and if he can start to make a bigger impact in the United first team, full honours should soon follow.

Antonio Candreva    (Midfielder)    Udinese    Aged 23
The most daunting challenge that the Italian team faces is finding Pirlo’s replacement, and they may have found their man in Candreva. Pundits speculate that the Udinese midfielder will make his loan to Juventus a more permanent situation, especially since his abilities to play the entire midfield and master the perfection of Pirlo’s holding, creative role have been urging a permanent position.

World Cup 2010 Ball

The Adidas Jabulani is the official match ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup thatunveiled in Cape Town, South Africa on December 4, 2009. Jabulani was developed at Loughborough University, UK and means “rejoice” in Zulu.

The ball was also used as the match ball of 2009 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and a special version of the ball, the Jabulani Angola, was the match ball of the 2010 African Cup of Nations. This ball is also used in the 2010 MLS season in the USA in the league’s colours of blue and green as well as the 2010 Clausura Tournament of Argentina.

The Jabulani has four triangular design elements on a white background. Eleven different colours are used, representing the eleven players on a football team, the eleven official languages of South Africa, and the eleven South African communities.

The Jabulani Angola, used at the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola, was coloured to represent the yellow, red, and black of the host nation’s flag. For the final to be held in Johannesburg on 11 July, a special match ball will be used with gold panels. The name of the ball inspired by the city of Johannesburg, which is often nicknamed Jo’burg and will be the site of the 2010 Final.

The Jabulani balls are made in China, using latex bladders made in India, thermoplastic polyurethane-elastomer from Taiwan, ethylene vinyl acetate, isotropic polyester/cotton fabric, glue, and ink from China.

The Jabulani is going to be every goalkeeper’s nightmare, and every striker’s greatest Christmas gift. To be honest, I can’t wait to see Cristiano Ronaldo strike this Jabulani Soccer Ball because when he does it could be spectacular! I spent some time taking shots and it absolutely pings. The Jabulani is a very light ball and when you strike it clean it moves fast. In a sense, it reminds me of a plastic ball and it sounds plastic when you bounce it.

One of customer review is Fernando Robledo. Here is what he said about World Cup 2010 Ball“Best Soccerball ever. Now I know why soccer players kick hard and move fast. It’s all about the Ball.”

The Technology Debate: The Final Straw

Friday, July 30th, 2010

So the World Cup fever is starting to subside and the unavoidable after effects are taking place. England’s early exit was a huge disappointment for fans but that somber mood could have been pure bitter anger had the game have swung on England’s second goal which was disallowed by the referee.

After the game, fans meekly tried to insist that the result would have been different had the second goal been called in, the reality is that the boys in red were outclassed by a much more organised, efficient German team. Some even saw this as a positive, because, had the score remained 2-1 to the Germans in lieu of England’s equalizer, the sport would have been brought into disrepute.

Sep Blatter, FIFA top dog finally admitted two weeks after the game that goal-line cameras needed to be introduced to eradicate the possibiliity of similar occurrences in the future and bring football into line with other sports that have used technology successfully for years. Cameras on the goal-line are an obvious choice but other techniques suggested are a unified communications network between the officials allowing lightning fast negotiations to keep the game flowing.

With regards to the specific technology used, Voice Over IP Phone headsets have been suggested for their ease of use and ability to host multiple conversations at once. This way the referee would have access to instantaneous communications with linesmen. There are some detractors that say such technology would slow the game down, but in sports like tennis which use the Cyclops device , player disputes with umpires have been greatly reduced which actually serves to keep the action going.

All it takes is a camera set on the goal-line and an IP Phone system for officials, ease of implementation and cost is hardly an issue considering the millions of pounds circulating in English football currently. While Blatter has commented that the sport should be kept as traditional as possible with the Premireship sharing strong ties with Sunday league football, players’ bloated wage packets surely negates this argument.

The sport needs technology and quickly, there are too many incidents of clear goals being disallowed with potentially catastrophic consequences. Football is stuck in the dark ages and technology is the only thing that can drag it out. Let us all pray that Blatter sees sense, at least before 2014.

Discover How An Agility Ladder Will Help Improve Your Speed And Agility Workout

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Do you even understand what an agility ladder is?  I don’t mean one you lean up next to the house in order to do home repairs. The ladder I am referring to is the one that strength coaches like myself employ for athletic performance. The agility ladder seems to be similar to a ladder in its outline excepting it can be made up of plastic as well as a material resembling rope It’s crafted from this stuff so it is possible to lay it flush over the ground so as to do speed agility and quickness work outs.
The main purpose of the agility ladder plan would be to encourage a wide selection of diverse foot and movement routines. These actions grow to be habit, and then the body is able to rapidly react towards the assorted angles required. You can develop your agility through practicing the movements in training and so the agility ladder can be a practical tool in a sound agility program.
The awesome thing regarding performing this type of agility ladder training drills is that it is possible to do them just about everywhere you have a small level open place. Your backyard, a park, as well as local high school soccer field all work as good locations to apply the benefit of these type of work outs. You could increase your footwork and hand-eye control as a result of performing high-knee runs, shuffles, and bounding drills all through the rungs in the ladder. All these drills need to be executed keeping good running mechanics and form. They ought to also be completed in an intense approach to accomplish the complete gain. Agility ladder drills are fantastic and you’ll be able to basically duplicate them in a number of ways to carry out both foot speed workouts and agility ladder drills. If you have a reasonably long driveway or court and you do not wish to use the cash to buy a ladder then it is easy to simply create your own with some colored duct tape that you get at your community hardware shop! Say you decided to go this method ensure the ladder is no less than 5 yards in length.
You can find over twenty separate quickness drills that can be used with an agility ladder and all of them help improve fast twitch muscle tissue. The workouts vary from lateral travel side steps, to front steps having staggered travel. All work outs necessitate rapid and explosive movement’s .These movements are what are behind the training of your fast twitch muscle fibers.
Even a track athlete can benefit from this type of workout. The track competitor will get out of the blocks quicker and that translates into fast run times. The model training program for speed will consist of an agility ladder, but additionally some overall speed and agility training, sound nutrition and diet, and good core training to maximize the athlete’s results.
You will get a quick sense about what genuine cardiovascular exercise is like when it comes to this type of training! Enhance your performance now. Step up your training program to obtain the outcomes you want.
