Three Movements To Begin With For Vertical Leap Training

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

So you want to learn some good vertical jumping exercises? There are several out there. Here are some fundamental ones that are an excellent point to start your training. Make certain that you follow the movements correctly. Many people perform the correct exercises, but they don’t do them correctly. Begin with the exercises we outline below and you will have a good foundation for improving you vertical leap.

You may assume the only muscles you need to work on throughout your vertical jumping workouts are your leg muscles, but that’s not the case. The muscles in the back and waist are also very vital. The erector muscles are the strongest muscles in the back and take on the most work. Your plan should include exercises for the back and waist areas as well. Which brings us to our opening exercise.

Dead Lifts

A good exercise to start with is the dead lift. To start the exercise, grab the barbell, bend your knees, and arch your back. Come to an upright position while holding the bar. Slowly return the barbell back to the initial position on the floor. The first 3 sets of 6-8 reps should be done quickly but steadily to avoid injury. Take a brief rest after these first 3 sets. Perform one extra set taking your time and being more intentional.

Leg Presses

Another good exercise is leg presses. Pick a weight on the leg press machine that is near the upper end of your range, but not the most you can lift. Set your feet about shoulder width apart. Bring the plate down slowly until your knees bend to your chest, and then rapidly push it away. It’s not about the slow and steady here. Jumping is an explosive move, so you need to do this exercise in an explosive manner. Do 5 sets of 6 reps. Take a brief break between each set.

Medicine Ball

For our last exercise we will utilize a medicine ball instead of a basketball. Pretending that you are doing a dunk, grasp the medicine ball and leap up as high as you can. Make certain to stretch your reach and try to get the ball as high as you can. Doing this exercise will develop all the muscles that you will use when you really are able to dunk. As with the leg presses, make certain to be explosive when you perform this exercise.

While these are just three exercises, they can be a good start to increasing your vertical leap. Mix these with additional jumping exercises. Make certain you do them properly, though.

Right now you might be looking into many different package options and no matter what you are interested in you should watch for some important things in them. Here are a few things to find in a good World Cup package.

First you should watch for the air travel that is being used. There will be packages that include different classes for travel, whether thats coach, business or first class. Your cost for this part will vary according to how far you have to travel. There are many airlines flying to South Africa, that include Emirates, Etihad Airways, South African Airways, Virgin and British Airways.

The next important part of the package is the accommodation. These will range from 3 star to 5 start hotels, to guest houses and apartments. You can also find hotels with hospitality areas. In these areas you can get free travel services and some will offer food and drink. You will not be able to get your hotel switched during your trip in most cases.

The proximity of your accommodation to a stadium will be important. You will have to watch for the location of your hotel especially if it is in Johannesburg. There are lots of matches in Johannesburg including the World Cup Final match. It also helps to check on venues in cities like Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria. No matter what city your package takes you to you should check on where your hotel is and ensure there is adequate security provided.

You may even be offered side trips in your World Cup package. These short excursions will give you the chance to experience all that South Africa has to offer. You can get a safari trip or a trip to Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls. Ensure you read the details to see what is available in the different packages.

The tickets are the last part of the package to check out. You can get tickets for many games in a plan. The levels of games in the package, including Group Match and Final events, should be checked on. In many cases a package provider can offer tickets for all matches involving a specific country. Travel locations and dates will be different according to the team you follow.

Be sure to watch for the many factors involved when looking at the many world cup packages available. It helps to take a look into the air travel, hotel and tickets. Any additional travel services should also be watched for.
